Kent is a classic college town on the Cuyahoga River, minutes from Akron and under an hour from Cleveland. Kent State University's Kent Campus covers about 950 acres. The Lefton Esplanade, a walking and biking path, links campus straight into downtown.

Downtown Kent is easy to enjoy on foot. Acorn Alley is a pedestrian shopping area with locally owned boutiques and public art. The Kent Stage, built in 1927 as a silent-movie and vaudeville theater, still hosts concerts, films and plays on East Main Street. The downtown revitalization that started in 2006, a partnership between the city and Kent State, also brought the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center and the PARTA transit center.

The river ties it all together. Fred Fuller Park, Kent's largest park at more than 56 acres, has picnic shelters and a nature trail along the Cuyahoga. That trail connects to John Brown Tannery Park, the site of an 1836 tannery built by abolitionist John Brown and a launch spot for kayaks, canoes and tubes. The paved PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail runs through Kent toward Ravenna and connects to the wider regional trail network.

Public schools are part of the Kent City School District, including Theodore Roosevelt High School.
